NaNoWriMo 2005: Until next November

Mon Dec 5, 2005, 7:49 PM
NaNoWriters 2005 Participants
Well, it's done now. NaNoWriMo officially ended five days ago, but your notes have been slowly trickling in over the past few days. Many of you didn't make it to 50,000 words and many of you did. To those who made it - congratulations! You've proven yourself a speedy and determined writer. To those who didn't quite get to 50k - you had the courage to give it a go and that's the important thing. Some of us just can't write quickly and under pressure, and that all just comes down to what kind of writer you are. So long as you produced something this month, those 30 hectic days were worth something. So well done everyone! Thank you all for being a part of ~NaNoWriters and we hope to see you next November!

On the 30th of November, we asked writers these questions:
1. What was your final word count?
2. What has been your favorite quote from your novel thus far?
3. How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?
4. Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?

Here's what they had to say:

*bananaprincess
NaNoWriMo.org username: Jakala
Working title: [untitled]
What was your final word count?: "50602"
What has been your favorite quote from your novel thus far?: "I don't know if I have one favorite quotation, since it's so unedited, but this is from my favorite part of the novel, the main character's dream sequence involving Impressionist paintings: 'They walked over the bridge featured in Manet's White Water Lillies from 1899, Jimmy and Molly Jane laughing and spitting into the water below.'"
How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?: "Hectic! This was probably my busiest semester at college and work got crazy a few times as well. However, I did enjoy writing this. I was writing the backstory for a poety book, and doing this was very helpful. I'll continue to work on it for fun."
Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: "Nope. This was just to help me with my poetical narrative. I have one of these poems on dA, though: [link] "

~Broken-Moons
NaNoWriMo.org username: [Not given.]
Working title: [Not given.]
What was your final word count?: "According to word, my current final wordcount is 50007; according to the NaNoWriMo validator it's 50267 or something. It won't be my actual really-final final wordcount, since the story isn't done yet. I've set myself the goal to be very close to the ending mid-December, if not finished."
What has been your favorite quote from your novel thus far?: "My favourite quote about Santiago, who is after all the protagonist, would be this: 'They had chosen to go by coach to avoid the cold air - the last thing Santiago needed now was a cold, Angelica had said, and Santiago had had to spend five full minutes trying to get the horror of that image out of his head.' That is, Santiago's nose was broken a few pages back. Try to imagine having a cold with a broken nose..."
How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?: "An eye-opener. I love writing, I've always known that, but I get lazy sometimes, and NaNoWriMo has shown me how much you can accomplish by simply writing 2000 words a day. I should just keep doing that for the rest of my life."
Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: "I posted an excerpt on my NaNo profile [link] but nowhere else. I want to try and get this published, and publishers might might about it being online, or so I've heard..."

~Budda28
NaNoWriMo.org username: Budda
Working title: The FyreByrd Cycle'
What was your final word count?: "3,000 and something....rather pitiful"
What has been your favorite quote from your novel thus far?: "I'm not sure I had one - didn't get any dialogue going at all..."
How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?: "When I was actually writing the damn thing, excellent...when I was stressing about not even being near my goal each day....hell on Earth..."
Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: "My prologue, will be posted in to my account - [link] "

How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?: "Obsessive - LOL - interesting, and an educational challenge for me. "
Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: " [link] It is here more or less in entirety, but you have to be a 'friend' to read it. Feel free if you have a LJ to write and ask to be friended."

NaNoWriMo.org username: robertsloan2
Working title: Sable Cloak
What was your final word count?: "51,672 by my word processor, slightly off from the Validator but who cares? I won!"
What has been your favorite quote from your novel thus far?: "No lines that memorable emerged. The plot's fun but I need to really spiff up the dialogue in rewrite. Or I just haven't remembered them, which is entirely possible I'll find good ones on rewrite."
How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?: "I did it! This was the toughest Nanowrimo I have ever completed and a huge personal triumph because I was too sick to do it and I did it anyway and finished. It means a lot. I don't care if the rough is sloppy. I can rewrite it. I did it this time, it wasn't another 2002."
Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: "Nope. You can read my first novel, Raven Dance on the Internet as that's finished and in print. Just click on More Information and Sample Pages. I think it stands up well in quality compared to first novels of some favorite authors. I don't post entire novels in their rough state or any fiction in its rough state except to small critique groups or individual beta readers. Raven Dance was edited 40 times and proofread and edited by friends and polished to final form. This year's Nanovel needs edits before I even give it to beta readers, so that I don't waste their time spotting problems I know darn well how to fix. lol But it's done! And that was a major achievement compared to any other month that sick. I feel like I smashed a mountain that stood in my way and the edits seem easier for being so obvious."

What has been your favorite quote from your novel thus far?: "'Why in the name of Hell did you say you loved me when all you do is run away from me Raiku?!' / 'I'm not running...' / 'Then what are you doing?' / 'I'm trying to find a way to word this so it doesn't sound like every other males version.' / 'Word...what?' / 'Takoda...are you willing to take this lowly Vampire lord as your only one?' / 'Raiku...you already are my only one, no one can take that away from you; while you may be a Vampire lord, you are the King of my heart.'"
How would you sum up your NaNoWriMo experience?: "It was realllllly hard! I got hit with a writer's block right after writing the first chapter @_@;;;;"
Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: "The exerpt is up on dA when Alex (whom Vega knows as Raiku) and Vega first meet ^-^ [link] "

Is your novel posted (in part or in its entirety) anywhere on the Internet? If so, where (links, please!)?: "Not yet. Should be up on my devART site soon, though."

What was your final word count?: "my final word count was 50,053. nothing like squeaking past."

I too enjoyed taking part of nano this past year.
:icondc2610:
I participated for the 1st time last year. I made my word count and got the certificate. Now I meet with a group of nanos in NY every other month. We support each other. I liked nanowrimo. Maybe I'll do it again next year. The story I wrote needs so much work.

Put a fork in it, it's done.

Wow, I was really starting to lose faith in week three but a few sleepless nights means I'm all done. I think I'm going to sleep all day tomorrow now.

*strokes laptop*

Now, now precious, it's all over. You don't have to go through the pain anymore....at leats not for another year anyway.

Critiquing someone's prose or poetry is an awesome thing to do.
:star:The supremely awesome Mimesis 3 is available now!
:iconalicornmoonstar:
Sheesh, did everyone here die or something?XP
:iconalicornmoonstar:
Thank goodness, at least your still here....
:iconalicornmoonstar:
20,012 Everyone! :D How's everybody doing?
:iconalternate-faith:
16515. I'm just going back and drafting some of the stuff I've already written. Probably not the wisest move but it's really annoying the hell out of me.
